Jean Claude Ellena for Perris

Mimosa arrived in French Provence in the middle of the 19th century, making its way from Australia via Hyde Park and Crystal Palace. It was the Victorians (who spent their winters in the Riviera) who launched the fashion for this elegant tree. The demand for the beautifully fragrant mimosa bloom became so great that they were planted on a commercial scale in Tanneron, a commune just above Cannes.

Perfumers started introducing mimosa as a perfume note into formulas around the 1940’s. Now, the third decade into the 21st century, mimosa and its innocent green aroma is going through a mini renaissance.

Perris again collaborated with an amazing perfume artist to create their mimosa story. Jean Claude Ellena describes his Mimosa Tanneron as an ode to tenderness, sweetness, and the sensation of love about to begin.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is a fragrance for close conversation in bright weather, when the air still carries a little coolness and the light makes everything look newly washed. It projects a tender, green floral presence that feels intimate rather than loud, suited to someone who prefers softness with definition.

How to wear

Best worn in spring and mild summer, when its mimosa and green floral facets can stay airy and clear. Apply lightly, two to four sprays, so the scent keeps its delicate lift; in warmer air it blooms softly, while on skin it settles into a clean white-musk finish.

Who it’s for

For wearers who like floral scents with a green, natural edge rather than powdery sweetness. It will appeal to those drawn to airy compositions, understated elegance and fragrances that feel tender, botanical and quietly sensual.

The nose

Jean-Claude Ellena is known for his spare, transparent style: fragrances that feel distilled rather than decorated, with a focus on light, texture and the natural character of raw materials. His work often favors clarity over volume, letting a few notes create a complete emotional picture. For Perris Monte Carlo, Ellena brings that signature restraint to Mimosa Tanneron, shaping mimosa into something airy, green and intimate rather than sweetly floral. The result reads like one of his most recognizable strengths: a composition that feels simple at first glance, but reveals subtle movement and nuance on skin.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris, as creative director, shaped the Collection de Grasse concept and the brand’s emphasis on natural materials, giving Ellena a framework centered on Tanneron mimosa and its regional identity.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo builds its fragrances around the character of raw materials, with a particular interest in naturalistic florals and ingredients linked to Grasse and the surrounding region. The house favors compositions that feel refined, luminous and ingredient-led rather than heavily constructed.

Mimosa Tanneron’s concept

Mimosa Tanneron was conceived as an ode to the mimosa forests of Tanneron, above Cannes, where the flower became a commercial crop after arriving in southern France in the 19th century. Jean-Claude Ellena framed it as a study in tenderness and the feeling of love just beginning, with hawthorn adding a gentle, sensual edge.

Extra info

Mimosa Tanneron is the fourth fragrance in Perris Monte Carlo’s Collection de Grasse. Its name points to Tanneron, the Provençal area known for its mimosa forests, and the flower’s essential oil has been associated with perfumery since the 1940s.
