Perfumer: Prin Lomros
Please note this 2020 formulation by Prin is a new vision of the Rhinocerous theme and is not a replacement (neither conceptually and nor technically) for the prevous discontinued formulation.
Prin Lomros tells this bold leather story in his favorite witchy herbal incense style with a few nods to the first chapter (the boozy theme of rum and whiskey).
Zoologist's concept for the perfume:
"Under the searing gaze of an unrelenting sun, the ornery rhinoceros surveys his dusty territory. A tough, battered hide is his armour against the erosive onslaught of sand, whipped into a frenzy by a hot, merciless wind, as he stands strong, defending his domain.
On the first spray of Zoologist Rhinoceros, heady notes of sweet rum and whiskey collide with mellow coffee before the scent settles into its lingering journey. Rich leather, oud and incense are carried in a cloud of smoky red tobacco along a dusty amber path, dotted with hints of patchouli and moss. Rhinoceros is a sophisticated and robust scent that makes a bold, unapologetic statement. Go forth and explore your world. Don’t ask permission."
Zoologist Rhinoceros does not use animal products.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
This is a scent for close quarters and strong presence: a dim room, warm skin, and someone who carries themselves with quiet force rather than charm. It reads like worn leather, smoke and dark liquor in the air, projecting authority without feeling polished or polite.
How to wear
Best in cool to mild weather, where its leather, tobacco and woody smoke can unfold without turning heavy. Apply sparingly at first; as an extrait, a few sprays are enough to create a dense, lingering trail that sits close to the skin before expanding into the air with warmth.
Who it’s for
For wearers who like dark leather, smoky woods, tobacco, incense and boozy accents, especially when they are rendered with a vintage, animalic edge. It will appeal to those who enjoy bold niche compositions with texture, depth and a slightly untamed feel.

The nose
Prin Lomros is known for richly textured, atmospheric compositions that often blend incense, herbs, woods and animalic effects into something both tactile and slightly surreal. His work for Strangers Parfumerie, Parfums Prissana and PRYN has made him one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary indie perfumery, with a style that favours depth, shadow and character over polish alone. For Zoologist Rhinoceros (2020), he reimagines the theme with his signature witchy, smoky sensibility, keeping the boozy opening and pushing the fragrance toward leather, oud and tobacco. The result feels like a darker, more ritualistic take on the original animal concept, with a strong sense of texture and heat.
Collaborators
Victor Wong, Zoologist’s founder and creative director, shaped the animal-inspired concept and the narrative brief, giving the perfumer a vivid scene of a rhinoceros in a sun-scorched, dusty territory. Prin Lomros translated that vision into the 2020 redesign, bringing his own herbal-incense style and reworking the original theme into a new composition rather than a simple replacement.
Zoologist’s story
Zoologist builds fragrances as imaginative portraits of animals, translating habitats, behaviours and instincts into unconventional scent stories. The house is known for working with independent perfumers, using animal-free materials and embracing bold, sometimes polarizing compositions that are as conceptual as they are wearable.
Rhinoceros (2020) Version II’s concept
Rhinoceros (2020) is a redesigned version of the original 2014 fragrance, created after Zoologist updated several scents in response to changes in its perfumer relationships. The concept places the animal in a harsh, sun-baked territory: rum, whisky and coffee give way to leather, oud, incense and smoky tobacco, evoking a battered hide, dust and heat rather than a literal animal accord.
Extra info
This is Rhinoceros Version II, clearly marked as a 2020 redesign rather than a replacement for the earlier discontinued version. It is made without animal products and comes in Zoologist’s 60 mL deluxe bottle format.
