Perfumes that suggest a marine scene — whether tempestuous oceans, seashore soirees, or even a beachside swimming pool at a luxury resort — are a cunning collaboration between the intent of the perfumer and the willing imagination of the smeller. There are plenty of natural materials that conjure the actual sea, from ambergris to seaweed extracts, with their salty, mineral, even leather/musky facets. But even more abundant are the aromachemicals which summon the sense of escape implied by sandy shores and limitless blue horizons. There’s Helional, a watery-fresh marine scent with a crisp melon facet that suggests an ozonic updraft. Calone evokes iodized air, as well as a slightly green and aniseed note with hints of watermelon. There are also ozonated materials such as Floralozone, and the marine moss of Evernyl, flickering between the smell of algae and wave-sloshed rocks. All of these notes play on a scale that summons everything from seaweed on wet pebbles, sea breezes in the air, cocktails by the pool, sun lotion on warm skin, and of course, the endless, boundless ocean itself. Time to make some waves with these uplifting fragrances.
The surf crashes against the sandstone rocks. Your skin glows in the warm sun underneath a blazing Australian sky. As you climb out of the water, a gentle breeze blows through the nearby jasmine and frangipani trees, mixing with the subtle scent of sea, salt and rock.
A fantasy of ocean-going journeys with notes of crushed leaves and the fruity-aromatic nuances of a lavender, pear and thyme accord. The scent’s convincing seawater effect is achieved through a molecular distillation of algae from the Pacific, with iodic and animalic notes of white lichen and ambergris. The dry, almost mineral facets are balanced out with cedar, moss and sandalwood from New Caledonia.
Clean and warm smellscape suggesting a sailboat anchoring at a secluded, sunkissed cove. Windswept ozone swirls around salty-amber driftwood, while from further down the beach, a suggestion of fig and violet leaf adds a refreshing ting-a-ling.
Sea ice, swells and whitecaps: all part of the drama of the ocean in winter. Penguin opens with saffron caught upon a marine blast of crisp antarctic air. Against the cool desolation, anticipation glimmers as lively aromas of pink pepper and sea moss swirl over musks, suede and sandalwood.
A sensual marine perfume conjuring aromas of ocean breezes and poolside sun decks, alongside sun lotion and driftwood. The driftwood theme is executed with the help of Virginia cedarwood, which is well suited to its purpose due to its gentle, radiant and cozy character.
Laid back, salty and sexy, this perfume delivers remixed 60's chic. Smelling good without trying hard, Saint Malo’s earthy patchouli and lavender are brightened by bergamot and lemon, and textured by sea salt.
Australia’s Daintree Rainforest, off the Great Barrier Reef, inspired this soft and clean blend of balsamic buddha wood, grassy apple-tinged chamomile, and ethereal blue lotus root. An accord of rain-dappled leaves and damp earth lifts up the pleasing rubber nuance supplied by black tea. Earthy tropical intrigue.
A technicolour tropical bouquet of gardenia, tiare and ylang ylang to suggest sun lotion lusciousness. A happy dance accompanied by coconut and vanilla, with a little musk cha-cha-cha.
